Support.

Policies, compliance, and people processes that protect your business, create consistent employee experiences, and give you the HR foundation to grow with confidence.

What We Do

HR Done Right.
From the Start.

Most small and mid-sized businesses manage HR reactively — writing policies when something goes wrong, building onboarding after a bad hire, and thinking about compliance only after a complaint. That’s an expensive way to operate.

Hartley Michaels Consulting helps you get ahead of it. We build the HR infrastructure your business needs — written to reflect how you actually operate, compliant with current requirements, and designed to create consistent, professional experiences for every employee from day one.

With experience in HR leadership, payroll coordination, and business operations support, Beth Hartley provides practical guidance tailored to the needs of growing businesses — delivered through flexible support that fits your team and budget.

Common Questions

HR Questions
Answered Honestly

We already have an employee handbook — do we still need HR support? +
It depends on how current it is, whether it actually reflects how your business operates, and whether it covers your current compliance requirements. Many handbooks we review are out of date or were written so generically they don't provide real protection. A quick assessment will tell you honestly what state yours is in.
How long does it take to build an employee handbook from scratch? +
Typically 2–4 weeks for a complete custom handbook, depending on the complexity of your business and how quickly you can provide input. We don't rush the process — a good handbook requires time to get right — but we don't drag it out either.
Do you handle HR for a specific industry or state? +
We work with small and mid-sized businesses across industries, with particular experience in professional services, healthcare support organisations, and general business operations. We're based in Missouri and build compliance frameworks around applicable federal and state requirements for your specific situation.
Can you help with a specific HR situation we're dealing with right now? +
Yes. If you have an active HR challenge — a difficult employee situation, a compliance concern, or an immediate documentation need — we can engage on that specific issue directly. You don't need to commit to a full HR overhaul to get help with what's in front of you right now.
